The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in the production and circulation of fake gazettes.
The arrests come on the back of GPCL’s Gazette 360 Public Education Campaign which aims to deal with the issue of fraudulent Gazetting practices and educate the Public on proper Gazetting processes.
Speaking on the arrests, Managing Director of GPCL, Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq., emphasized that fake gazettes are of serious concern to the state.
“Anyone involved in producing or using fake gazettes undermines the authority of the state. Such persons will be arrested, prosecuted, and jailed. GPCL will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure this menace is eradicated,” he said.
The four suspects were apprehended with counterfeit gazette documents intended for various uses. They ate in the grips of the police and are expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.
GPCL emphasizes that it is the only constitutionally mandated institution authorized to print and publish the Ghana Gazette. The Company is urging the public to deal directly with its offices to acquire genuine gazette services and to report any suspicious activities to the police or GPCL.
These arrests underscore GPCL’s firm resolve to protect citizens from the dangers of fake gazettes and to uphold the authenticity and credibility of the Ghana Gazette.
