June 21, 2025 Accra- The Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq., has assured the Ghana Legal Information Institute (GhaLII) of his firm commitment to ensuring that all of its printed legal materials and other relevant information are made accessible to the public on GhaLII’s digital platforms.

Addressing a gathering at the opening of a two-day workshop on sustainable access to law in Accra, Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq. indicated that while digital publishing has become the new norm and is expanding rapidly, printing remains a significant revenue source and a vital part of the industry’s operations.

” we’re ever desirous of making the legal materials free and open to the public on GhaLII platform” he said.

Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq., however, revealed the single biggest challenge GPCL contends with regarding gazettes is forgery.

He explained that GPCL’s all-new gazette with highly enhanced security features, among other embedded features, is the game-changer to curb the phenomenon. In spite of the challenge, he reaffirmed his resolve to join the course of making legal materials open and free on GhaLII’s digital platform without compromising credibility.

“we’ve challenges with gazette acquisition but we’re very willing to assist GhaLII while maintaining the integrity of the document, Nana Kwasi Boatey said.

The two-day event, organised by the Ghana Legal Information Institute (GhLII) and supported by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), brought together key stakeholders in Ghana’s legal and justice sectors.

Speaking at the event was the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. He called for greater efforts to make the country’s laws easily accessible to all citizens. He added that democracy cannot thrive unless the people understand the legal framework that governs them.

“The law should never feel out of reach or difficult to navigate. It must be accessible, clear, and reliable”

The founder of GhaLII and former Akuapem South MP, Osei Bonsu Amoah, also speaking at the event urged the State to prioritize free and easy access to legal texts.

“It is said that ignorance of the law is no excuse, but if the average person doesn’t have access to the law, is it fair to call them ignorant?” he quizzed.

The objective of the two-day workshop was aimed at developing national digital portal for accessing.
